Pascal-Adolphe-Jean Dagnan-Bouveret was French artist active in the late nineteenth century. He was known for peasant scenes and mystical religous paintings. This study of the head of St Peter is for his large-scale painting ‘La Cène’ or “The Last Supper”, which was exhibited at the Salon de Champ-de-Mars, Paris in 1896. The painting is now in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
