The drawing of the seabird is especially characteristic of Webb, who was renowned for his sympathetic depiction of animals and birds. The purpose of this embrodiery is unknown, it may have been designed as a fire screen or banner. Inscribed in pencil in Philip Webb’s hand writing with detailed instructions as to colours, silks and cloth appliqués.
