This skull cap was probably acquired by May Morris in Iceland. A photograph in the collection shows Mary and Margaret Peirce wearing the same cap at Kelmscott Manor. The Peirce sisters joined May and Mary Lobb on a trip to Iceland in 1931. The cap was donated to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter in 1939 by May Morris’s friend and beneficiary Mary Lobb and later transferred to the William Morris Gallery.
