One of a number of drawings made by New to illustrate Mackail’s ‘Life of William Morris’ published by Longmans, Green & Co. 1899. This drawing shows the weaving and printing sheds of Morris & Co.’s factory at Merton Abbey. According to the list of New’s illustrations in Mackail’s notebook (J164 pp.41-42) New was paid 3 guineas for the drawing by Longmans to whom the drawing was delivered 6 June 1898.
