Agal to be worn over a keffiyeh (a headdress traditionally worn by Arab men) to secure it over the head. It is possible that May Morris collected it during her trip to Egypt with her mother in 1897. It was donated to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter in 1939 by Mary Lobb, May Morris’s companion and later transferred to the William Morris Gallery.
