William Morris’s design ‘Bird and Vine’ was registered 15 May 1879. The fabric was woven on a jaquard hand-loom and was originally produced at Morris and Co’s Queen Square premises and later at their factory at Merton Abbey. The design came in 11 colourways and was very popular as a church furnishing. This example is edged with a decorative brocade.
