This earthenware tile is painted in three shades each of grey, grey-blue, cobalt and turquoise, in 12 squares each with a number. It was used by De Morgan to test the colour of glazes. The revrese is impressed with a Tudor Rose and “Wm. De Morgan & Co. Sands End Pottery Fulham”.

The tile was formerly in the collection of H.C, Marrillier, Managing Director of Morris & Co.
