This design is one of three for stained glass windows depicting Morris & Co’s Merton Abbey works. A newspaper cutting from the local Merton papers, c.1938 shows W.H. Knight, the senior draftsman of Morris & Co., and Douglas Griffiths, one of the weaving apprentices holding up the cartoons, it is unknown whether the panels were ever executed, and Morris & Co. ceased in 1939.
