This design is for a wallpaper that was never put into production. The depiction of flowing upwards movement and the use of sprays of willow leaves and twisting vines are characteristic of William Morris’s designs for wallpaper in the early 1870s, the design bears some resemblance to patterns such as ‘Larkspur’ and ‘Willow’.

From the series of woodcuts for the projected edition of ‘The Earthly Paradise’ c.1865, ‘The Story of Cupid and Psyche’ (probably number 26 in the series). Designed by Edward Burne-Jones, drawn on the block by William Morris and cut by Lucy Faulkner (according to the handwritten inscription on the back). This block was probably a trial attempt and not used.
