This portrait of (Marion) Edith Hunt (née Waugh), shows her in a rich interior in Cairo. It was painted by the American artist Anna Lee Merritt. Hunt was the second wife of the Pre-Raphaelite artist William Holman Hunt. In 1892 the Hunts travelled to Palestine, through Italy and Greece and Egypt, where presumably this was painted. In 1892 Merritt was living in Hampshire, England and travelled to Egypt for health reasons.
