These slippers were possibly acquired by May or Jane Morris during their trip to Egypt in 1896-97, but more likely by May during a solo trip to Morocco in 1911. May departed England in October 1911 for a three week trip on the H.M.P.S Agadir to Madeira and the coast of Morrocco. The slippers were donated to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter in 1939 after May’s death by Mary Lobb, May Morris’s companion, and were part of a larger collection of mainly Icelandic material. The collection was transferred to the William Morris Gallery in 2012.
