The ‘Sussex’ chair range was adapted from a traditional vernacular pattern and made in large quantities by Morris & Co. from the 1860s onwards. Among a quantity of ‘Sussex’ chairs bought by Newnham College, Cambridge with a variety of different spindles in back rails from Morris & Co for use in Common Rooms and students’ rooms, and including G71, G72, G73 a and b, G75.
