This photograph captures the dining room of Kelmscott House in Hammersmith, home of the Morris family. Dominating the space is a magnificent 17th-century Iranian ‘Vase’ carpet, dramatically draped across the wall and ceiling. The carpet was given to the V&A by Jane Morris when she left Kelmscott House in 1897. In front stands a Cypress wood chest displaying examples of Iranian metalwork, including two brass peacocks that are now at Kelmscott Manor. Above the doorway hangs a portrait of Jane Morris by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
