Tulip and Lily was designed by William Morris around 1867-7. He registered the design a year or so later on 27th December 1878, after a number of firms started copying the design. The flat woven flooring is 3-ply wool and was woven in Yorkshire for Morris & Co. by Heckmondwike Manufacturing Co. The carpet as available in various colourways, predominantly green. The carpet was 36 inches wide (91.5cm) and also available for stair caperpets, this version has a border and was acquired from Morris & Co. in 1904.
